Data sources and credits
Every live figure on this site comes from a published open data source. We don't change the figures, apart from adding them up, and we say where we leave anything out.
Power cuts
From each electricity network operator's live feed, refreshed when the site updates. We add up homes off from unplanned cuts only, and count each cut once.
- UK Power Networks, covering London, the South East and the East of England. Dataset. Contains data from UK Power Networks, licensed under CC BY 4.0 (licence). This feed leaves out cuts affecting five homes or fewer.
- National Grid Electricity Distribution, covering the Midlands, the South West and South Wales. Dataset. Supported by NGED Open Data (licence). We count homes the operator has confirmed are off; its estimates are left out.
- Northern Powergrid, covering the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire. Dataset. Supported by Northern Powergrid Open Data (licence). We count confirmed homes off in cuts the operator marks as in progress, so the real figure may be higher.
- SSEN Distribution, covering the north of Scotland and central southern England. Dataset. Contains data from SSEN Distribution, licensed under CC BY 4.0 (licence). Planned work and jobs merged into another job are left out.
