Lidl plug-in solar panels: are they on sale in the UK?
Not yet. When we checked on 4 November 2026, Lidl's UK website had no plug-in solar kit, and Lidl GB hadn't announced one, a price or a date. Lidl Germany does sell kits, but they have German plugs and can't be used here. If you want plug-in solar now, complete kits start at about £336 at other UK shops.
Buying through our links costs you nothing extra. Some of them earn us a small commission, and that's what keeps Survival Bunker going: it pays for the time it takes to keep our picks and figures up to date. Thank you for helping. How we choose and how we earn.
On sale in the UK now
More kits, and what each includes: plug-in solar kits on sale.
What Lidl has said
Lidl GB has backed the change in the rules but hasn't announced a product. In the government's March 2026 announcement that plug-in solar would be allowed, "retailers like Lidl and Iceland" were named as working with the government, and Lidl GB's corporate affairs director, Georgina Hall, called the change "a positive step". In June, Lidl was again named alongside Currys, B&Q and Amazon. The August announcement, when the panels became legal, named Amazon, Argos, Currys and Wickes as committed to stocking them, but not Lidl.
MoneySavingExpert still lists Lidl among retailers "expected to start stocking plug-in solar panels". Searches of lidl.co.uk for "solar", "solar panel" and "plug in solar" on 4 November found nothing, and those searches include upcoming middle-aisle offers.
Where the "£400 Lidl panels" came from
Headlines in March said Lidl would sell £400 plug-in panels. Lidl never gave a price. Compare Solar NI says the figure came from the government's estimate of what a typical kit would cost, reported alongside Lidl's interest. Kits now on sale in the UK cost from about £340 to £1,000.
What Lidl sells in Germany
In Germany, where plug-in kits are called "Balkonkraftwerk", Lidl sells several online. On lidl.de on 4 November:
| Kit | Price on lidl.de |
|---|---|
| TRONIC TSBK 400 A1, 370 W of panels, 400 W inverter | €261.99 |
| TRONIC TBKT 800 A1, 860 W of panels, 800 W inverter | €299.99 |
| VALE 900 W of flexible panels, 800 W inverter | €449.00 |
| TRONIC TBKF 800 A1, 800 W of flexible panels | €478.99 |
They can't be used in Britain. A kit here must come with a moulded UK plug fused at no more than 5 A, meet the government's plug-in solar specification, and be verified on the UK register before it's sold. A German kit with a Schuko plug meets none of that, and an adaptor isn't allowed.
What a Lidl kit would have to meet here
The same as any kit: at most 800 VA into the socket, up to 2,000 W of panels, a UK plug, no built-in battery, and a verified entry on the register. How plug-in solar works, and the rules.
Would it pay?
Whichever shop it comes from, the government puts the saving at up to £110 a year, and the Energy Saving Trust at about £70 to £100 for an 800 W kit. For your own home, try the plug-in solar calculator.
